I ordered a set of Scat H-beam 6.123 rods with ARP 8740 bolts a while ago from Summit.
They came home and I opened the box and started looking at them.
On one side it looked strange as if someone had polished them. When I turned them in different angles I saw the Summit logo and their part#.
I contacted Summit and they came up with a possible explanation, someone maybe bought two sets pricy/cheap returned the cheap ones in the pricy box.
Ok. I returned them and they would ship new Scats.
They showed up today , same story. Polished and with signs of Summits logo wtf….
I know Scats are made in China but are Summits from the same manufacturer ? anyone who knows ?

How would You proceed from here ?

get summit to refund you the difference in price between the scat and summit rods. if they won't send them back for a refund and buy the summit ones, they're obviously the same piece.
neil.

Actually the Summit rods are a few dollars more expensive

My thoughts are they're both made in China anyway so what's the difference? I think you found there is no difference and Scat makes the Summit rods. No surprise.

Oh and I would proceed by building an engine.

Just always curious on rod weights on what out there to buy, I have Scat I beams, they are pretty light
The Scat I-beams are a little bit heavier (620's?) than the Eagle SIR I-beams (advertised @ 605), but they are also forged from a better steel with bigger bolts, like most H-beams - 4340 vs 5140 for the Eagle SIR. Molnar makes a nice, lightweight H-beam advertised at 623, but more expensive. For reference, standard Eagle H-beam are advertised at 695. I'm pretty sure that Summit sells the Scat I-beams under their label as well.

engine tech summit and sealed power lifters all seem to be identical in build and appearance as far as i can tell. have had summit and sealed power in my hand same thing as far as i can see. they all have 2011 in the part number just letters up front to indicate which brand.

no space for a logo on them... i suspect you just pay for expertise more or less quality control at the factory and the printing of their logo on the box...

i.e cheap ones, the QA guy measures and checks 1 in 50
the more expensive he checks and measures 1 in 10
the production line runs and some go into one kinda box and some go into another.
cheep brand come off the production line when the QA guy is having his coffee break..
I've worked in a factory.... some product isn't checked as thoroughly and goes out the door cheaper... all made by the same guys using the same kit on the same shift...
if that shift has a high failure rate the stuff produced goes in the cheap lane out the door.

with your rods I'll take a guess cos thats is all any of thi is... the summit ones came off the line
summit didn't want em and scat did so the QA was done and the logo polished out...badly
or scat wanted em and pay more than summit so summit lost out....

kinda like an edelbrock carb with W weber logo on it.... who owns the factory and who do they make stuff for... edelbrock avs style 500 CFM carb sold in uk as a weber branded kit fro rover buick v8 hence a lot of edelbrock castings have that W
