Well tuned with a turbo motor, they can run pretty fast. Tube frame cars can be down in the 9 second range or faster.

Years ago I took my friends to their first drag race. A VW bug lined up against a Mustang or similar. The bug was dialed in something over 20 seconds. The handicap on the tree was huge. The bug ended up winning and my friends just walked away shaking their heads.
