when i worked at a dyno shop this was a very common occurrence, either by the owner doing shade tree work or even better, other shops! and it was always the same: oh, it just needs tuned.Dished pistons, larger cam, lifter pre load was set at what, what was compression before and after, was eng orig or rebuilt, was cam degreed in, what is dist curve, what is air fuel ratio reading etc etc etc....
Most mechanics shops around me would not touch that car unless you let them do a full tear down start over. They would not accept the job otherwise. And the so called better shops have 6-12 month waiting list or longer.
Yep a shop is gonna want to tear it all apart and address all deficiencies otherwise they won't accept the car. No way to know what all is mickey moused up otherwise. And there is a nation wide shortage of auto mechanics these days to boot.when i worked at a dyno shop this was a very common occurrence, either by the owner doing shade tree work or even better, other shops! and it was always the same: oh, it just needs tuned.
no, my friend. ain't no amount of tuning gonna sort that out.
i got to be the bad news department a lot...
