A guy brought me his 73 duster to finish putting the interior together. I installed the seat tracks on the right seat then installed the seat . Afterwards i sat in it & tried moving the seat back & forth. It moves but it will not lock into place. What could be going on ? I really dont want to take the seat back out just to find it needs different tracks & if so the seat can stay in until a pair is located.

4 nuts and your life will be much easier.

The tracks have 2 springs, one (larger) to assist in seat movement and one on each side IIRC (smaller) to set the lock in place.

There is also a wire that goes from left to right to unlock both sides at the same time. All of this is easily visible with the seat removed

this is a 67-69 track BUT I suspect that they are similar enough to what you have to shed some light

red is small springs that pull the locks in place
green is the wire that connects the two levers
blue is the hook on the back of the seat that the wire threads through so you can adjust one side to unlock the same as the other

these are in the LOCKED position

Red is where the larger seat forward movement spring goes

These 2 pivots MUST be free to allow the levers to move OR the lock springs MIGHT not be strong enough to pull them back into the locked position.

LASTLY the wire that connects the left to right might be so tight that it is keeping the locks from locking.

This is the way the 66/67 seat tracks are hooked up
  1. the green is the wire that goes from the left track to the right track
  2. the red is the flat silver piece is attached to the wire (but it should be facing the other direction)
  3. the blue line shows where the end of the flat silver piece should be attached. The hook is adjustable to add or release tension on the silver piece to adjust how much tension is on the wire

Yea i know lol the guy who owns the duster told me that 73s didnt come with the wire that goes left to right

Maybe buckets only locked on one side?

you know this would be a whole lot easier if you removed 4 nuts!

That's baloney, the seats came with adjusters. You can fab something up if you have to. Dana's pictures show it. Plus, it's pretty much the same as the driver's seat. Even if it was a bench seat, same theory.

What Dana said, just like a hood catch that gets crusty, & the spring can't return it......so You slam the hood but no latchy....good pics & info provided there, & I've never seen a manual seat that only locked one side,...ever.
