Try putting a small paperclip on the secondary operating rod up against the vacuum diaphram housing, when the secondaries open, it'll push the paperclip down the rod. Ideally, you shouldn't feel the secondaries open anyway. If you do feel them open, it's because they are opening too early when there isn't enough velocity through the secondaries to pull fuel through. The big kick you feel is when the secondary fuel nozzles crash in. I'm assuming you are talking about a Holley?
