So I fired up my car today in the garage(its hibernating for winter)

and long story short, there was a small spot of coolant on the ground under the drivers side headers...

after looking into(i thought it was coming from the header bolt), it is leaking out on the drivers side corner, by the firewall, between the head and the block where the head bolt is...

Of course this has to be the HARDEST area to get to...

Is this a big issue? or is it jsut a matter of snugging down that head bolt ??

thanks again,

Shane

Have you tried Barrs leak?

My high school auto mechanic teacher used to push that stuff pretty hard. He would add it even though he didn't have a leak in all of his cars.

I love your cuda!

Double check that valve cover and your oil pressure sending unit for run off.

I would not trust that bars leak stuff.

WELL THANKS!!!! i love it too!! (all most all of the time....but me and the cuda have had our moments...ahhaha)

cudaspaz: I have double checked the sending unit and the valve cover...i was running water in the rad at first, as i was very IMPATIENT to drive my first restoration and my first muscle car....that i thought the little leak i had was oil from one of those two places you mentioned...

before i stored it i put proper coolant in it and tonight discovered that it is coolant, and it is coming from between the head and block as mentioned right on the drivers side by the firewall at that last HARD to get to head bolt......

I have never heard of barrs leak....if that will do the trick it would save alot of work...is it jsut a supplement I put in the rad??

shane...

Shane, I would retorque both heads before using any type of additive. Better to heal the wound than band-aid it. Barrs leak does work but it also coats the inside of radiator (and everything else) and reduces heat transfer.

What type of head gasket did you use and did you have the head surfaced and the block decked? If you did, what RA did they surface it too?

well ramcharger... the simple answer is I assume so... the long answer would have me telling the whole LONG story of how I got the Car and the Motor that is in the car now..

i am young and an amateur, but the block and heads were sold as being sent to the machine shop, and they look the part.(i have photos) they used fel pro, and as mentioned the heads and block were machined....as for what RA?
I can admit that I dont know what that means....

but as I only have 1100 miles on the motor I think i will pull the brake booster and headers and re torque the head first...

i am going to stop saying THANKS, as it has to be assumed I appreciate the help/info!

Shane

Could it possibly be a exhaust manifold/header stud which enters a water jacket ? The two backs and two fronts studs are in a water jacket and need sealant.

Hey Johnny Dart!

I was hoping so, but when i got my flash light and header bolt wrench, it hit me like a truck, i also jacked the car up and rolled around under there to confirm it..., its from that last damn head bolt....
