Run the motor as is with a 3.91 or 4.10 gear and it will be much quicker. A set of gears and a good quality converter is cheaper than building a BB engine and trans.

All true things here but when you up the gears like that you lose highway drivability.

At a 1000 miles a year the OP said he puts on it would not make much difference. I have 4.10's in my 340 dart, drive it all over on the highway. Besides, what you lose in drivability you gain in fun factor.
