Hello!
I introduced my 1974 Dart Custom "Barry White" here on FABO a few months ago, but Barry has since had a makeover! When I initially shared photos of the white Dart with my 4 siblings, they were elated, since our family car growing up was a brand-new 1969 Dart, in Medium Turquoise Iridescent (photo included.) My brother said "I'll pay to have it painted our car's original color," so, I took him up on it (I wasn't crazy about 'Eggshell' anyway.) Even though it's not period correct, and our car had a plain black interior, I don't mind the blue interior with the new color. I provided Maaco with a Dodge paint color chart from 1969, and they were confident they could reproduce it. Happily, my oldest sister who knew our car well, confirms the accuracy.
Anyway, for $3k, Maaco removed the vinyl top and treated the rust, some body dents, sanded, painted and clear coat. I provided new emblems, marker lights and side moldings. It's by no means perfect, but I'm really pleased with the color, and this project has breathed some enthusiasm and connection into my family. The only casualty seems to be the bright trim moldings around both windshields, they suffered a lot with removal, and aren't holding on too well now. I'm thinking of ordering reproduction black gaskets, and having a local glass company replace them for me. I read the threads about the gaskets, where to order, the risks for breakage, but if anyone wants to chime in on their experience doing so, I would be grateful. Thank you!
