shifter handle???

If everything is stock on my 72 demon 340 4 spd,how close to the dash should my shifter knob be when in first or third gear ??? Mine seems real close, like 2-3 inches away.The shifter handle in the third pic is not the one used in the car,the one in the first two pic's is the one used. It is a hurst comp plus with a #6350 mounting plate. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Darryl

Don't know if this will help you,but this is my factory shifter in my Duster sitting in first gear.

Your handle seems a bit long (tall). here is mine, 69 Dart, in neutral. Pleanty of clearance.
