Anyone have recommendations on affordable shipping for larger items other than USPS, UPS or FedEx.
I have a 20 # box 33 x 21 x 12 to ship across the country.

i ship Pirate Ship and it is great. Save lots of money on all the stuff I ship. You drop it at CVS and it usually goes by UPS(so wrap it really good)

GoShippo.com

If you go into USPS,FEDEX,UPS, you pay retail (most expensive)

Online from the big 3's websites (less expensive, but not by much)

Most any of the 3rd party sites will be the least expensive.

You could check with Fastenal BUT they only ship within 2 zones (1 basically West of the rockies) and basically east of the rockies) and there is no way to ship between their two zones

Also grayhound has shipping.

Lastly there are sites where you offer your package to be shipped and how much you are willing to pay. Then if someone is going that way they will pick it up and deliver it. (One such I used charged a 25-50 fee to me for using e the websites service AND charged the person doing the transport 25-50 also

Also your box is not all that large or heavy

This is what I'm getting from goshippo from northern colorado to a random address on CT with your weight and dimensions.

Fastenal used to be a decent method for way less. I know weve done transmissions and such with good results....really depends on the person crating at the source if you are successful. They take it from there, and pickup at the nearest Fastenal. Be forewarned i have not done any big shipping in a couple years.

I have used Fastenal, good service and very reasonable. You have to open an account (no cost) with them. There are requirements for the shipment, must be attached to a pallet. They provide all of the information. The shipment goes from Fastenal at your location and shipped to the Fastenal at the receiver's location, at which time the receiver pays the bill of laden.

I just checked pirate ship. Using your numbers, shipping that package from my zip(62052) to Ca zip(94949) is approx 63.00

Last Saturday I shipped a 30 x 25 x 11 box weighing 48 lbs 12 oz with an additional $28 insurance ($1 per $100 value) literally cross country from Washington (the state) to Florida via PirateShip.com for $91 total. Minus the insurance, it would have been $63. Go to PirateShip.com for a free quote. You won't find a less expensive method unless you have a connection to a pilot that flies for one of the drug cartels...
