ShittySlant6's Rustoration - 1970 Duster

Always fun to think back on the student parking lot behind the school between the hotrod gearheads and the redneck trucks

Great stuff @shittyslant6
We welded the parking lot gates closed on graduation day, planted trees on the 50 yard line the night before the “big game, did donuts in the school parking lot, and I could go on and on and on. We did some really dumb (read; awesome) ****.

Ah the high school shenanigans. I remember those days fondly. Well done young man, well done. Continue having fun because that’s what this hobby is about.
Where are you in Cali
I really condensed the high school shenanigans with this car to focus on the build itself, I'm sure more will come out over the course of this thread, most everything i did to this had some kind of story behind it.
I'm in so cal, in the high desert

Nice I’m not far, just down the hill in the IE. If you get stuck, need a hand, or some parts, shout out. There’s a few of us not far from you.

Yesterday I got both the rear window and windshield out of the car, and finally removed the horrible package tray

Thankfully, being a desert car for a majority of it's life paid off and there was absolutely ZERO rust under the glass. hell there's still paint under it.
I only broke the windshield which is no big loss as it was delaminating anyway.

Also got the dash out of it

Been looking at rollcages, does anyone have any pictures of an alston chassisworks 10 point cage?
I am looking for a cage that has the bars going through the dash instead of in front of it.

As do I, very well. We had help though in a corrupt and complicit Assistant Principal, Mr. Beckwith. Everyday without fail he would be standing on the front steps at the school when the bell rang at 3:15. I would walk by, he'd have a cig hangin outta his mouth wearin them Blues Brothers shades and look at me and say "Merritt, let's some tire smoke from that Charger" and I was all too happy to oblige.

have you looked thru the MP chassis manual?

admittedly, it's been ages since i pulled thru there but i seem to remember they had schematics for several versions of cages?

Cool thread. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the Duster. I had a Duster in high school and did some of the same stuff and had some of the same problems with mine. It always seemed like fixing or modifying stuff was under a time constraint due to some event or another.
