Single Stage Metallic question?

How many modern vehicles, yes they are not new, you find the clear peeling????/ I have a 71 duster right now with its original and yes faded F3 enamel applied by Mother Mopar what? 46 years ago!!!!!! It is hell to da off!!!!!!! I could have wet sanded and buffed (except for the places where it had wore down to primer due to sun)!! and had decent 46 yr old paint!!!!! FOR 46 yr old paint. Corse it has lead in it !!!!!! LOL
my point was, it's a different animal then the single stages out there now. you could lightly polish that stuff and it would come right back up.

That paint of today is HD water color due to VOC and eco issues. My 92 Lexus is starting to clearcoat check bad. My 65 painted back in in 2002 with single stage still looks very nice.

Most >10 yr old cars in CA that have spent much time in the sun have failing clear-coats. It looks particularly bad on black and dark green cars. It is very hard to repair to look even slightly acceptable. Even worse are the cars w/ paint coming off in sheets. GM pickups seem to be the worst. I think first pass was learning new low-VOC primers which bond to galvanized metal, then learning what water-based primers don't work, w/ public as guinea pigs. I will use solid color on my old Mopars since easy to repair the scratches and dings which inevitably occur to all but trailer queens.

Wherever you guys are getting your clear coat paint jobs done, can you list them so we can avoid those shops? My 2 abody cars have been done 15 and 20+ years and still look new. They are anything but trailer queens. The purple car goes out sometimes daily.

And yes, that is the only steel bodied fiat sedan delivery known to be in the US. It was used by ScottRods to make their fiberglass molds.

Most automotive paint has lead in it . Read the product information sheet and you'll see .They only took lead out of house paint last I heard.

It is hard to convince the "younger=ish " crowd bb/cc is not the wonder paint they have been sold.

I will continue to use the old PPG formulars in single stage urethane myself. When bb//c years ago, came out it was heralded as easy to repair, I will keep my way.

Most auto paint has been lead free since at least the 90's. Lots of other toxic stuff in them but lead hasn't been one for a very long time.
Yeah, the new stuff is all lead free I guess but the last car I painted in 2004 with enamel was still lead paint.May have been old or discontinued product for all I know. I'll be painting my rat wagon soon and will see then when I get some of the new product . After seeing what PPG wants for a gallon I found this site and I'm going to try it on my 65 Valiant rat wagon

I think there are a few guys here who have used stuff from them.

Anyone remember "Sunburst Silver" that 1-Day used back in the day (or what line of paint they used?) That's what is on my 65 and its holding up just fine. There is a big sag on one of the horizontal lower body lines but its hardly noticeable and I was happy with what it cost me...back in 2005. Its VOC banned in CA as far as I know as I tried to get some touch up paint. I never asked for BC/CC 2 stage so as far as I know its single.

So what do you single stage metallic guys do when the car needs to be buffed, or cut and buffed?
