skewing the dyno??

-
I do think dynos are manipulated to sell items. I do think some are manipulated for shows for "before/after" episodes. Could be manipulated to make an engine builder look better.

You actually need to dyno's, a engine dyno and a chassis dyno.
Choosing between the two, I'd take the chassis, although I'd rather have both as a tool.

repeat after me: a dyno is just a tool

You get it off the dyno, put it in the vehicle and the best performing tune on the dyno is different from what the vehicle likes.

Agree on the tool. Find what makes the engine happy.

I've mentioned the dyno/humidifier deal in here before.

When a dyno guy himself (in the video) explains how easily they can be manipulated, makes a lot of shows (both tv and youtube) questionable. And dyno owners themselves manipulating their customers.

People dont listen. Engine builders with dynos tend to exaggerate numbers, just like head porters with flow benches do. Yall remember MRL? that was the biggest lier I ever saw post on the internet.

Take it to a Dyno operator that has no insensitive to fudge the numbers.

I know Tim wouldn't fudge your numbers. would he? lol
Probably not, he wouldn't inflate the numbers on something he didn't build, now his builds, who knows. :D

I don't doubt that numbers get fudged but I like to think that most of us are honest operators.
There are reasons that numbers can vary that are not a result of a dishonest operator.
Same data can be interpreted to have different meaning.

absolutely.

Fudging numbers? I think Nick needs to get his recalculated. Everything he tests is on the low side of the scale.

I'm less incentivized now than I used to be for an all-out hot rod anyways. I enjoy driving them and traveling in them, with an occasional pass at the track :)

But so many, even without cars, want a HP number. I get asked that a lot.

I wouldn't mind a dyno sheet on my 273 just to have it, even if the numbers are disappointing. If I build another engine (doubtful) I will spin it up just to see what it does.

Tim absolutely would not fudge numbers. If he built it or not. He underestimates most things and questions most Dyno operators correction factors.

Well then it turns into a surprise in the car if it's low balling.
I assume for most people getting there engine dyno'd it just to tune and find out where your peak torque & peak horsepower are, for myself that's to pick a torque converter, gears and try and shoot for a weight so I can run the numbers on the track I want.

If I were to engine dyno something, I truly believe it would be a stone-stock 318 2bbl to see if I could tune/time it to the 230 "advertised" hp. That would be interesting.

***BREAKING NEWS!!!***

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

UT learns there's "shenanigans" going on (GASP! Who'd a thunk it?), and spews his Breaking Story across the entire Spamiverse!!!

STAY TUNED for those single cylinder engine tests, folks! You don't want to miss it!!!
