Ok I have been running the Skip white disturber for a while about 5000 miles and my coil just went bad and left me on the side of the road. The thing is I put a new MSD Blaster 3 coil in when I put the dizzy in so 500 on the coil and the dizzy. When I pulled the cap off the rotor button was 100% done down to the plastic. Could this have caused the coil to stress and mess it up.

don`t know, but you should call skip white perf. and let them know, the have always gauranteed their stuff for life.

500 on the coil and distributor? 500 dollars? What did you do, buy 10 distributors? And why would you use anything OTHER than what Skip White recommends for a coil. They specifically recommend an E coil for their applications. Says right on their site NOT to run any other type. Sounds like operator error if I ever heard it.

You put that big old hideous thing in a Mopar? Just so you know, for GM, that particular distributor was the absolute WORST about burning through rotors and grounding out on the distributor shaft. I always carried an extra rotor wherever I went if I had one of those distributors.

Here is the part number 6513-R

the only reason I got it was I heard nothing but good things about it.

I am sure. The GM units are great. But that's how hot they are. If you run anything other than a Blue Streak or equivalent style rotor, it WILL burn through. It ain't an IF but a WHEN. That's how hot the spark is. You should make sure you have plenty of grounds on the engine from the engine to the chassis of the car. Make sure all of your ground connections are tight and clean. You might be trying to ground more through the rotor than you think.

They mostly burnt thru because of the ridiculous spark plug gap that GM originally recommended for that system. That same gap caused all kinds of other problems too. Once GM backed down to something more reasonable spark gap-wise most of those problems disappeared. I've plenty of friends running GM cars over the years with that ignition that have never had such a problem, and they haven't always been able to afford the premium ignition parts.

To the OP, what gap were you running?

Now THAT is a good point. I remember seeing gaps on emissions stickers of .080 and .100! Mostly with the Buicks and Oldsmobiles. That would be a bit of resistance, now wouldn't it? lol

Dude, you don't need all that fancy bulls*it to run a mild 360, your actually harming reliability. Your tinkering too much, sometimes it's best left alone. Save for a bigger project, like college, or a house.

Check the resistance of your plug wires. They should be about 10k Ohms. Hot ignitions will burn out cheap resistance suppressor wires. I found that out about 40 years ago, the cables went to meg Ohms, and missing started. Long term use may burn the rotor.

It might be wet with thermal paste for improving heat sinking. If it is wet with water, the distributoror cap needs a vent.

MSD stock HEI,replacement cap & rotor, for the big cap parts. Ignorance, is blissful. Run ,what you have. (I am guessing, the big cap G.M Hei... Go with it.

I am confused. What is the MSD Blaster 3 coil you installed? The distributor you bought has an integral coil. Did the "Blaster 3" replace that, or was it a separate cylindrical coil (like most "Blaster 3" coils Mopar people use)? If the later, don't know how you would have wired it. The water is strange. Must be dripping down on the distributor from the hood gap.
