I have tried to post under parts wanted, but it never appears. I need a 225 for my 64 Dart, either a core to rebuild or a fresh rebuilt one. Would prefer an early one with spark plug tubes.

If you have the slant out of your 64, be sure to save the oil pan and oil pick-up. Then you can use just about any slant. If you find a 68 or later, Most likely you'll also need to buy the adapter ring if using any early torque convertor.

Thanks a lot for the info. I have found a slant from a 68 to rebuild. The old slant is still in the car and driving right now; I want to keep the car mobile while I'm building the new one. Guess I'll have to swap the pan when I pull the old one out. How can I tell if I need the adapter? It's still a typewriter, so I'm sure it's an early 904.

Do you know what is the safe amount to take off the head/block to raise compression with a stock cam? I imagine I will have to measure the combustion chambers to see if it has already been cut, but curious what allowable would be with stock engine.

:coffee2: You can very safely remove .100 from any stock slant six head. You should have it CC'd first to see if it has been machined before. 1968 and later crankshafts had a different crank register but maybe that doesn't matter if you keep your push-button. Have a nice day. Mark.

Charlie_S (or such) here sells the adapter ring (~$20) for the crank register. You must use it if the hole in the crank is bigger than the snout on your torque converter, unless you install a later trq conv (requires different input shaft on tranny). 1968 was around the year that it changed, so research. A "correct" block for 1964 has 3 staggered "core plugs" on the side. Your 1968 block probably has 5 in a row. I heard those blocks are slightly stronger. Much info about that on www.slantsix.org.
