So far the one part that has been giving me more trouble than any other part in the whole damn car is the distributer.

On average the remans only last about 6-8 months before they die on me. I have replaced everything from the ignition switch, coil, ballast, voltage reg, ignition box, checked and cleaned all the grounds/bulkhead connector, the amp gauge has been bypassed, new starter relay (on my 3rd now and I have to ground it because it is toast as well) and I still don't get any spark to the plugs. It cranks over but nothing happens. I hate mopar electrical systems, they are all Fed from the charging to the ignition. The one thing Chevy did right was wire cars! I would swap over to HEI and a chevy one wire alt but I am just going to sell the car after I get it all fixed up and it would sell better if it has the stock crap on it.

Rant off...for now.:angry7:

Wow. Kinda lame you are giving up over something so trivial. Its commonly know that reman sl6 dizzys are junk. Look over at .org for Old car parts north west.Guy has loads of Factory Mopar parts in storage that he sells at a good price. Including sl6 dizzys.Nothing wrong with the Mopar electrical, and chevy sucks no matter what.

Think of it like this: Would you buy a Chinese reman engine or transmission? I bet not. Get yourself an original mopar dizzy and never look back. I have not had any of the problems you describe with any of my mopars, then again I dont buy cheap crap from autozone etc... when something needs to be fixed.

Yeah well when you coast into the parking lot of a parts store and it is your daily driver you don't really have much of a choice do you. Never said I was giving up just said that I am going to sell the car after it gets fixed up mainly because I am getting board with it and most mopars in general. Kinda boring going to a show and seeing 100 of the same cars and colors over and over again. Besides I'm getting a 56 Olds pretty soon and that will be my daily driver along with the 69 D100 SWB we just got.

As for the chevy parts kinda funny because alot of the guys over on .org do the HEI swap and have been with better results than keeping the stock mopar crap.

I thought that the old car parts warehouse burned down last year?

Wiring in general is a pain in the a**.I understand the frustration when you have to break out the multimeter and test light and track down that problematic electrical parasite.I am very glad our older classic cars dont have the spagettii clusters of wire harnesses, computer controls, and a bunch of sensors.:banghead:

One of the most dependable engines on the planet and yours is junk? You should sell it.
Weird how millions were built and set dependability and mileage records but your mopar is just garbage.

Wow thanks for putting words in my mouth. Did I say that the motor was junk? If they were crap motors why would I put one in a 48 chevy? I said that the distributers and electronics were crap.

I just bought a dist from the fellow up north , it is really nice ( brand new) and then went with the 98-2000 Chevy coil and bracket with the four pin HEI set-up like on the Slantsix.org site . I have about $160.00 in the set-up but it works really nice and should work forever ...

The slantsix.org guys who do the HEI swap usually keep the stock distributor, though; it's the module they think could use improvement.

Bingo. Its the module they THINK could use improvement! I have done the HEI and Mopar EI swap and noticed no diff other than not having to use a ballast. It was done on the same car,one after the other. No diff in start up,idle quality,or seat of the pants feeling.

You think mopars are boring because you see 100 of the same? How about a chevy and seeing 10,000 of the same thing, try that for boring.

All of my mopars have been my daily driver. When it breaks down you buy the cheap part to get it going again, and order the good parts. Then return the cheap parts! Not buy the crap parts, and wonder why your **** keeps breaking down.

I've never had a electrical problem with my factory stuff that I could not fix with factory stuff and I won't be using any generic motors or ford crap on my mopars..

and yeah, wow,,,another Camaro/Firebird/LeMans/Chevelle/Mustang/Etc....LMAO! I have not been to a car show in a couple years and I still see way too many of those! If you don't like seeing the same old cars over and over you should avoid car shows all together. They are kinda like high school and ford escorts....just because it was popular doesn't make it best.

I do agree with that. I always go straight over to the "odd ball" cars.
I was at the track yesterday, lots of stangs and Cramaro,s.Out of 250 cars,my 66 Dart was the only one.Talk about oddball, everyone kept calling my car a Valiant, one guy even said I put the D A R T emblems on it?O.K?

Yeah I gave up on 98% of the car shows I used to goto every year. Now I have alot more time on the weekends to do fun things like work on the house and yard:angry7:

I have never been to an All Mopar car show in my life.I would be in heaven surrounded by restored Superbirds,Cudas,Challengers,RR's,340 A bodies and so on.Most of my local car shows I go to there is never an old Mopar.Mostly Mustangs,Camaros, some Tri-Five Chevys, not to mention Ricers,Imports and Lowriders. My town dosent exactly have a huge Mopar following, mostly a Rice and SUVs with 23 inch rims that spin, lol.Hopefully I can go to the next Mopar show in Denver:angry7:I would love to go to Carlisle someday:-D
And about POS parts,I grew up with my parents having 2 Dusters, both Slant Sixes with the original points distributors and never gave any trouble.

all i can say to 360 scamp is WAHHHH!!!! go ahead and go by a chevy you already sound like a whinning chevy boy so go join em - you should fit right in!

Hey I got a better idea, why don't you go outside and play hide and go &%*# yourself.:thebirdm: Oh and I have a chevy, with a slant six, HEI and a chevy one wire.:-D

360scamp I like your collection, different is cool. I love both of my A bodies, but every now and then I have to get the MR2 out and see what cornering is all about. Just can't get into this Mopar only thing.

I know it can be frustrating at times. I have had my momments when no matter what I did I just could not seem to make something work. I knew that there were millions of the cars on the road that are working fine but mine magically was the biggest pile and it had to be an engineering thing.

Sometimes you need to let it out like you did and no worries there. This probably won't be any comfort to you but honestly I have had less problems with my Mopar ignitions that my past GM stuff. I am an old Buick guy before converting over to Mopar.

Step back, take a breather or drink and take another stab at it.

It's a shame some of us need to kick a guy when he is down. Even though some hurtful things were said. But a person will talk crazy when they are covered in third degree burns and their foot is caught in a bear trap.

Peace brother!

Chuck
