Smart Phone To Dumb Phone Question.

Exactly. No problem like that with a Samsung. I've been anti-Apple for a long time and it's basically their closed architecture on everything.
I’d rather have my battery go dead, then explode in my car. I guess you don’t remember the batteries exploding on Samsung.

I phone software is too restricted.

It's OK if you like paying for subscriptions to everything and have a phone that just works.

Android allows you to get advanced and root your phone so you can install custom kernels and make your phone truly yours and do what you want.

I phones do work, I have friends with them, but they are boring and thoughtless and just exist while charging you for everything that you never truly own. Kinda like a having a Tesla phone.

That was pretty much isolated to the galaxy s7.

That's the last of the removable batteries. S8 on up mega improved.

I had an S9 for way longer than it's life expectancy and it still works great.
Same isolated case with my iPhone 7, Apple slowed the battery down, they got sued and had to fix the problem. My battery would last a week before I’d have to charge it. My new iPhone 14 Pro Max’s battery last much longer, I charge it every two weeks if it needs it or not. The only reason I replaced my iPhone 7 a couple months ago is I got a free upgrade.

I’m like Rob, I miss my Motorola Slvr, it lasted me 14 years.

Kind of freaked out, my android phone was set to do an update after being in my pocket. I did not want the update, I turned the phone off and it went dark.

Got to thinking: all my phone numbers are in there, if this thing does not come back up I am screwed > especially if I am out of state and can't call anyone.

Got the phone to come back up, fired up my laptop and brought up a Word Document.

Then manually put every person's name and phone number on to 6 pages of word documents (double spaced) and printed them out on paper for a physical backup.

Also saved the word document on one of my storage computers for safe keeping too.

Getting way too dependent on these phones, can loose them or drive over destroy them by accident > need some type of backup for the information on them.

All is good now.

Meh that doesn't mean I won't do it, dummy. Text away. I'll answer YOU and a few others. I just don't like it simply for the logistics. My hands are WAY big and it's just a PITA. I better not stop getting texts from you either. Don't make me come down there. lol

The one the made me a Widower had one. I hated it. Android, all the Way! I've actually seen cars cruising around lately with a bunch of sensors doing Apple Maps just like Google used to do ( don't get me wrong, I'm no friend to Google)

Texting has a LOT in common with voice mail except you don't have to set up a voice mail account or log in to it.

The main benefits of both, IMO are A- that both parties can respond at times that are convenient to them.

...and B- you have written record of the conversation such as an address or a time (or a fender tag code) (or even better a pic).

That said, I see a LOT of people falling into one or two "traps"-

1- They think every text requires an immediate response. That is defeating the purpose...and can be dangerous if you are walking or driving.

2- They think every text requires a response....even if they asked the first question and have received an answer. Just let it go.

Same with using the phone. If people would learn to LEAVE MESSAGES the phone works the same way. lol

I guess I'll only be able to answer that when I get my flip phone and see if I can swap my contacts over. If all else fails, I'll just do a few a night until they're done. I do thank everyone for their input.
I paid my daughter to do it, she is amazingly tech savvy and types/texts at about a million words per minute. I had over one hundred contacts and she had them reentered in about a heart beat. She said it was easiest twenty bucks she ever made!

I have a couple of young nieces, that might be a good idea. lol

I guess you don’t remember the exploding batteries on those androids do you?
I have owned many things that have manufacturer defects. Not my point. A company as big as Apple deliberately screwing their customer base in the name of sales just doesn't sit right with me.

Right On! And They Do, almost ALL the Globalist Corporations Do it! Customer? SCREW YOU!

The only thing I really couldn’t get along without on a smart phone is the gps. If you travel to unfamiliar places, the iphone gps maps function is great. I spent a few weeks in Washington DC & couldn’t have got along without it. I normally don’t use my phone much cause it is too hard to see.

I am in the opposite camp of most. I hate PCs and Microsoft. I use an iPad almost exclusively. I can sit on the couch, watch tv and surf on my iPad in comfort.

With text you can say what you need to say without getting interrupted or sidetracked.
NOTHING about my IPhone is important enough to run for the phone when it rings, beeps or whatever.
I use IT, it doesn’t use me.

The very best thing it does in my opinion is I can use voice control for about anything.
I can make a call, receive a call, text, bring up maps and turn by turn directions, start Bluetooth music and a few others without ever touching the phone.
All plays back, asks questions if needed and functions through the stereo in the Dart.
One button on the stereo and I can tell it to text Rob :D and it asks what I want to say.
Then even read back an answer.
Smart phones are great if you use them instead of them using you.
