Has anyone ever had long term soreness in the throat? A couple of years ago my moms throat was sore for several months. It went away but has been sore again for the last 9 weeks. She also has pain on her side under the rib cage and around the back. Mostly in the right back area.

She's been to many doctors and they said it can be acid reflux and gallbladder issues.

Thanks

nothing like going to a doctor and being told :dontknow: hope your Mom starts feeling better

If it is acid reflux she would definitely know it. I get it if I eat something hot and spicy and when I go to bed that night I wake up to almost throwing that junk up. I got choked onetime. No more hot and spicy stuff for me after that. Now the gallbladder I wouldnt have a clue. I know there is glands in the neck area .... she running a fever?

She said she doesn't ever feel acid coming up. It's a soreness and sting in upper throat. The ENT doctor just saw redness there. No fever

Gall bladder will often give you some of the same symptoms of a heart attack...

If you only want an opinion you have come to the right place. If you want to find the cause of the problem see a doctor.

I had acid reflux and did not know it. Neither did my former dentist, After 6 weeks of having a sore throat and thinking it could be cancer I went to a ears, nose and throat doc. He stuck a tube up my nose and looked down my throat somehow. Said, yep, its acid reflux.

He gave my these once a day acid reducer pills - which gave me a mild headache at times and said I feel better in 2 weeks, heck I felt better in 2 days but I had to take those pills which cost me $90 a month for a whole year before my throat was 100% healed. I then cut the pills in half and then in quarters and got off the pills for good a few months later on.

After 6 months I was told I have to always take the pills but its been 5 years now and all is good still. At the slightest sign of a sore throat I take over the counter acid reducer pills now. When in doubt I take a pill but they do give me headaches so only take them when needed

Yeah she did the same thing. She was taking pump inhibitors, but she didn't feel well with them. Right now she's taking Pepsid. Do you remember which one you took originally for a year? You can PM me if you like. Thanks

Does she have sinus problems? My sinuses drain during certian times when my allergies flair up and cause my throat to be sore for long periods. Best thing is to see an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Does she have difficulty swallowing food?

Does it feel like her throat is ripping while swallowing?

Several people in my family have had scar tissue built up in their throat and had to have it massaged or stretched out in order to swallow food without pain or restriction but it needs done every couple years.
It can also subside on its own only to return later.

Does she also have the pain in her abdomen after eating fatty foods or allergic reactions to certain foods?

Has she has blood work done yet? If not, she needs to get a complete work up.

This in conjunction with an ultra sound scan might determine her issues.

Stomach ulcers from stress are A possibility.

H pylori infections can cause pain, and severe aching after eating and is usually treated with a mix of strong intibiotics which can really eff you up especially if sensitive to medications.
After much, much research on this topic it has been discovered that Danactive yogurt drinks or plain yogurt can severely diminish the symptoms and pain without serious side effects that the deadly mix of antibiotics can give some people.

Pain in the back could be kidney infection.

If she is a big coffe drinker she could cut back and drink a lot more water....she can also clean herself out with Natural liver and kidney cleanse tablets over the counter at drug store.

Does she do anything for a living or hobby such as use a lot of mineral spirits or other harsh chemicals or cleaners?

She really needs to at least get some blood to the lab for a complete work up.

I took a couple of different ones, they all seem to work. It was prescription only pills, over the counter did not work at all. After 5 - 6 months my regular doctor started giving my free pills, he was the one who said I might need to take the pills forever. The last ones were Nexmum - not spelled right

I do recall it took about 12 months for my throat to feel well enough to start getting off the pills. I believe I harmed it more by waiting so long. I also had to stop smoking anything. Every time I try to puffing up again my throat stung so badly, even just one hit and it hurt so bad for hours later.

Not all acid you can taste I believe I was told.

This happen to me 7 years ago, so I can't recall it all too well. Different food matter as well but I can't recall just what, oh, nothing acidly like orange juice. Even today I still water down my orange juice. Water was the best thing to drink for me. I never drink coffee so not sure if that is bad for you. It was no soda either, just water and milk but I don't like milk. Yogurt might have help, sorry I can't remember too well

I think my body after many months started not making as much acid, the pills were just one a day pills. There is surgery that also can be done to help keep the acid down below.

Yes, see a ears, nose - throat specialist and don't give up on the pills, that doc thought in a month I be cured. It still hurt all the time, just not as bad. For awhile I wasn't sure if I ever be well again

Once in a while she has allergy issues when she goes out in the yard. She doesn't think she has sinus issues. The ear nose and throat doctor said there was a little inflammation in the turbinates but she doesn't need to take anything.

She doesn't have difficulty swallowing food, but initially it was severe intense pain that felt like she was swallowing razor blades. It doesn't feel like it is ripping but felt like lacerations with stinging and burning.

She has discomfort towards the right side of her rib cage and to the back when waking up in the morning and when eating. She said when the pain hits her the worst in her back, she can feel the sting in her throat. She has a lot of belching even when drinking water.

Yes, she's done extensive blood panels. A long time ago they found Hashimotos thyroiditis disease. Recently, they found antibodies to the Epstein bar mono virus. The doctors told her that it was from a past exposure but not recently active.

She had an abdominal MRI two years ago and everything was normal but sludge in the gallbladder. One surgeon suggested removing it. She had a second opinion. This time is was an ultrasound and they did not see sludge. The doctor didn't see a reason to remove the gallbladder. But, she has heard that MRIs are more effective at seeing things in the gallbladder.

Three years ago they found antibodies to the H pylori virus and she took the antibiotics. When they retested with a scope and biopsies, it was negative.

Two years ago when they did the scope, they found gastritis.

She has a simple cyst in the liver and is having a urine test this week.

She doesn't drink coffee or alcohol. Yes, she was a hair dresser on and off but has quit several years ago.
