My wife says I have an overly sensitive nose, or sense of smell, as I can smell things she can’t. And since I don’t care for the smell of cigarette smoke in a car I’ve turned down a number of “good deals” because of this (the smell), nor do I want to purchase a car that smells.

Am I alone here?

And for the guys that do you smoke in your car(s), how do you feel about this?

I bought my 72 Fury from a cigar smoker. It didn’t smell good but cleaned it well and the stink went away after a few months

Nope, I'm right there with you. When Kitty and I met, she still smoked. She knew I detested the habit......and she did too, but was hooked like a bass. To her credit, she's been quit now 26 years. But for those first about four years, no matter how much she showered, or perfumed up, I could still smell it. And you know what? She didn't believe me until about a year after she quit. She could smell it everywhere......on people walking by in the store......you name it. What she wasn't understanding was, it comes out of the pores in your skin. That alone should be enough gross to make you quit.
 
You are not gonna clean the smell out of anything that has a lot of cloth upholstry, roof liner, door trim, seats and carpet. PASS
 
It took complete replacement of the interior of the Dart my Dad bought new in 1970 to get rid of the smell of his 5 years owning the car. Headliner to carpets. I can imagine what it did to my lungs driving around in his cars with him as a tyke, while the tobacco companies swore up and down there were no adverse health effects...
 
I smoked for thirty years, the gf still smokes, but her sense of smell (and hearing!, lol) is WAY better than mine.
She started smelling propane a week ago, (in the laundry room), finally decided to tell me. I never smelled a thing till I started looking and moving stuff, AFTER she told me.
New gas dryer time. Oh well.
Unlike some ex smokers, smoke doesn't bother me. But neither of us smoke in our current vehicles. Definitely NOT true when I was smoking.
 
My wife has the sensitive nose in our house. She detests the smell of cigarette smoke and she can smell it from another car when we're sitting at a traffic light. We have some really good friends who both smoke, but to their credit they try to limit their smoking when we are at their house and will both go outside when they are at our house. I leave the garage open for them if it's cold outside. The smell doesn't bother me at the time, in fact I still like it, but when I can smell it stale on my clothes it turns me off. When I buy a vehicle I try to avoid anything that has a real heavy odor and will outright refuse to buy something that is heavily stained inside. Too nasty for me, and I know my wife would not be happy with something that reeked of stale smoke.
 
I can smell them in traffic too! But as an X smoker that misses it, they still kinda smell like candy to me.... It's hard not to want one. Well until I see what they cost now. Like $12 for a pack of cowboy killers. wtfo
 
I can smell somebody smoking over 10 car-lengths in front of Me, with My windows up, can't stand it. Pipes & cigars not so bad, same with weed, but not the raw skunk. At the dealer, they cleaned eveything the best possible, then threw a high-powered ionizer in set on high & shut the door for the overnight.
A customer back at the private shop I worked at 22yrs, used Dodge Cummins duallies to deliver travel trailers, averaged 165K/year smoking the whole time. His truck never smelled like it, the trick??,...He cut a couple of green Granny Smith type apples into slices, & left them on the pass floor on some paper towels, kept the interior clean.
On the flip-side, I actually failed a Ranger for SI at the same shop because the golden-brown film on the windshield & side glass was so bad, it was literally unsafe....no chance You could drive at night with any kind of street light/headlights out there.
 
My mother smoked like a chimney. When she died about 15 years ago, my wife and I spent a month cleaning the house up. The appliances and cabinets looked yellow, but they were actually white. Nicotine was covering everything. We cleaned it as much as we could, but it still smelled. We coated everything with Fabreze. About 10 cans of Febreze did a very good job. I was surprised how well that stuff worked.

I can tell You 1st hand, Newport 100's with discounts are a $350-$460/mo. habit for a lady friend of Mine, ridiculous.

Try being a smoker in Canada, I quit before the prices skyrocketed, but check out this link on what a carton of premium (what used to just be plain old smokes when I smoked them) costs now :eek: So many smokers here cant afford to smoke, but because of the addiction they cant quit, so they resort to illegal "res smokes" that they can get for much cheaper.

It's $110-$115/10pack(box) carton for the Newports, +PA tax(one of the worst), so You're not doin' that bad.
A former co-worker makes cig runs on his bike summertime, smokes Gator-brand, really dirt-cheap. We tried 'em, but she had some weird reaction to them, skin break-outs etc. so.....She also has been using Nic-Outs, which come with their own $$ cost.......
A local just-across-the-border dealership had a big promotion at the New Year, 3yr. Lease on a new F-150 $175/mo.(sure it's a stripper 2WD), I told Her I could lease 2 new f'n trucks for what She's burnin'!!!!

My wife has a friend who can't do that math, either. Smart women, well educated and well read, but she lives in a run down apartment, has no car and has to ride the bus to a low paying job, and is always bumming money off her friends (like my wife).

And yet somehow she can afford to chain-smoke her smelly cancer sticks all day long. :realcrazy:

Former smoker here, I quit in 1999. I also have chronic nasal polyps, which affect my sense of smell. That said, when I can smell, houses and cars that people smoke in gross me out. However, I don't think I'd turn down a good deal on a car that stunk, because as mentioned above, there are very effective products that get rid of odors.

...and being a lover of food, I'm very envious of your sensitive smeller! Not being able to taste my meals is torturous.
