I remember when Roy (RIP) had covid. He lost his senses of taste and smell. He never regained them before he passed.
 
I don’t think you’re alone at all. Smell is a big deal for me, especially in cars—I can always pick up on cigarette smoke right away and honestly, it would put me off buying a car too, no matter how good the deal seems. I even stopped letting friends smoke in my own car years ago because the smell just lingers for ages, no matter what you try to cover it with.

Since quitting cigarettes, I switched to vaping and it made a massive difference, especially in keeping my car fresh. My go-to nowadays is the Uwell Caliburn G3, easy to carry around and doesn’t leave any stinky smell behind. Makes the drive so much more pleasant, honestly.
 
Depends what the car is, 440 dart, I'm buying if it smells like Gorilla farts. I'm an old smoker of cigarettes and kind of like the smell, from a distance. I think broccoli smells a little like cigarettes, :D but that's me. When buying something, I always go through my car's interior with pro cleaners, and have gotten rid of many odors in them. I would not walk away from a great deal because of the smell.

Unless there was a dead body in the trunk or back seat, I'm not worried about it. My current daily driver had a nasty odor in the interior when I bought it, but at the price I paid, it was the least of my concerns. I pulled everything except the headliner and cleaned it all with a carpet and upholstery cleaner. Took one Saturday afternoon to get it done, and over 2 years later the smell hasn't come back.

I bought a 99 Celica GT with 32,000 miles from an estate for a smoking deal and it still had ash trays full of butts. After a couple or months using everything i could find I finally got the smell out. I think Febreeze did the best. I had bought it with my granddaughter in mind but when she turned 16 she didn't want a 2 door sports car with a 5 speed so I drove it for about 3 years and then sold it for a good profit, Joe
