speedo cable 76 dart

looking to replace my speedometer cable, had an exhaust leak that ate way the casing, the cable that i got from autozone that said it would fit doesnt, was wondering if anyone knew the proper cable/ends to install.

There are 2 different ends that go to the speedometer. Beehive shaped or J hook style. Whitch do you have? Also what is the length?

I had issues at the spedo pinion, one is a smaller round nut the one I needed was a large hex nut. I had to do a lot of searching for it and finally found one on e bay.

Beehive shape up by the dash end. Large hex nut, the largest wrench I had was a 15/16 and it was larger than that, towards the trans

I must be missing something here. If the one you got from A Z fit, then why can't you just get another?

If yours has the J hook on the speedo and 80" works then you need the same one I just got from Summit. PN ATP-Y819

It's easier to swap the larger end from the old cable to the new one.

Get your crescent wrench, or channel locks and remove the old cable. That new cable will screw right back on, if aligned correctly. I just tried mine on a 833, and a 727
