Starter Armature will not come out

Hey Guys,
Anybody have experience rebuilding an original (1972) Chrysler starter?
I was following Rick Ehrenberg's 2000 article, and it says this should basically slide out after you remove the long screws and the "end cap".
Mine will only slide out maybe 1/2".

No. To remove the armature you must unsolder the solenoid wire and remove the brush plate.

yes. years ago I attempted it but I didn't get far, I discovered mini starters and I have never looked back.

This is either the most useless post ever, or the most helpful one.

Been a lot of guys break that solenoid wire trying to get them apart. OP did you try reading the service manual? You can download them free, at MyMopar

The 72 manual (which came there from one of the guys right here) page 8-10 or so

A partial shot of that page. They talk about unwrapping, but if they've been rebuilt they are sometimes soldered
