My flex plate broke on my 63 valiant with a 318/904 combo. rather the my another stock one I installed a SFI approved flex plate. Now my starter hits the flex plate. I'm using the mini starter so i didn't think there would be a problem. it looks like I can removed the collar on the starter tail shaft. Has anybody else had the issue? l'll attach some pics. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It almost looks like it needs to shift the nose is not in the hole either.

You should post this in the transmission section you might more responses.

I haven't ran into it before. It doesn't look like you'd hurt anything by removing the part of the casting that hits but others may know better.

The flexplate you have looks like a B&M SBM 727 for a 10&11" converter. I believe they discontinued the 904 flexplate. You can have the outside diameter cut down or use a Magnum 318 flexplate. I use the Magnum plate with no issues. Not sure there is enough meat to cut the starter housing, someone else may chime in.

update, I was able to cut away the starter collar and install the starter. Its a little tight but it clears
