Here is the problem.
I try to start the car and all I hear is a click. Engine doesn't even turn over.
I remove the starter motor. I bench test starter and it does turn. I conduct this next test.
While bench testing it I attach my voltmeter to the starter body (neg terminal) and the small postive one (the one I jumper to during the bench test). I get a reading of 5 volts. The Haynes manual says if the reading is less than 9 volts during the bench test the starter motor is toast.
I need some second opinions and or confirmation of this information. Also, does this mean at 5 volts the starter motor isn't strong enough to turn over the engine. Thus, the "click" I hear when starting the engine is the starter motor engaging the flywheel but not being strong enough to turn the flywheel?
Thanks
Greg
