Starters...all black or not?

Hey guys:
Curious if anyone has firsthand knowledge whether original, unrebuilt Chrysler starters were ever painted completely black? I've seen factory pictures with both all-black and black and natural aluminum versions.

I've also seen it stated that both are correct. I personally have had about 25 different starters, including several unrebuilt versions and only one ever had evidence of black paint on the aluminum gear case. Anyone know?

In my 47 years of driving Mopar V8s all the factory starters were black body, natural alum nose and white solenoid. All Mopar rebuilds same as factory. Jobber rebuilds depended who was painting them and how he felt that day. Kim
