I have a Torker II. Sometime in the future I want to get an RPM Air Gap. I read somewhere that a different 'stat housing may be required for the Air Gap. I couldn't find anything definitive. The picture shows the bolt pattern turned a bit from one manifold to the other. That in itself shouldn't matter; the outlet points straight up. But because I don't have an Air Gap, I don't know it the distance across bolt-to-bolt is different, or maybe something else is different. Maybe what I was reading was in reference to a Magnum?

Sometime in the late '70s Ma Mopar changed the thermostat and housing size to a smaller (Chevy-ish, same size as the Magnums) stat and housing, and began offsetting it to the driver's side. Possibly that is what you read was referring to.

AFAIK, Air Gaps all take the mid '70s and earlier large diameter stat and housing that we all know and love.

I didn't think they'd made too many different ones.

And yes, I was probably reading about the smaller Magnum version.

I remember back in the 80's buying and selling aftermarket intakes for about $50. I'm a thinkin' I'm gonna have to step up a few bucks this time around. Hoping I can find an unmodified, undamaged one sometime. New ones- $500!! It would be the nicest thing on the car.

I appreciate the replies everyone.

The offset t-stat is because it clears the more modern ac compressor. The threaded hole to the left of the t stat is for the compressor rear mount.
I only discovered this due to my 86’ van I’m building in the shop now. Without the offset, the ac compressor does not fit.
My 86 is an early one with a LA 318 not a magnum :(
