I got an extra manual box with a 68 Barracuda. I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong to it but was wondering about a couple things. When I tried to decode it the steering arm came up as 73-74 Cuda / Challenger. It has a number 3402730N16190 5. Only the first 7 digits did anything in my search. Don't know what the rest of it means?? Then I went onto the box. It is 2537349 6 and what I believe is the date code is H12 4J. Now this part number comes up with a few various models, so I was wondering how to read the date code to narrow it down. More of a learning question than anything and if I ever decide to sell it it would be nice to know what it is or was for.
Any date code gurus out there? I think the "H" is for August!!

H12 I would be Aug 12th. They didn't use I and went to J for Sept. However 4J could also mean 4th quarter of J=1973 (again no I) I doubt they would use quarters from steering gear though.

With this said I do believe the steering box would have a star wheel year month stamp in it with the 2 digit year being in the middle. Not sure exactly where you got these numbers from.

Thanx Rocky. The date code is stamped onto the end of the wormshaft adjuster locking ring. I just wanted to have an idea if I take it to a swap meet to let a perspective buyer know. I imagine it's likely a 24:1 ratio box. I'm hoping the Barracuda has the 16:1 in it.
