I'm in the preparation phase of doing a 4 speed conversion to my 69 Barracuda. The question I have is there a way to replace the steering column collar in order to replace/remove the column shift and gear indicator (Park/Neutral/Drive, etc.). I have another steering column that came out of a floor shift car. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to replace the whole column?

Thanks for your help and Happy New Year!

You can swap them over. I havent done it yet though. I have to do the same thing for my Dart.

Yes, you can remove the column shift parts and replace then with floor shift parts. I am unfamilar with '69 ignition switches. If the column is ignition switchless then it will be much easier than a ignition switch column. There are more parts to the later columns for the ignition switch lock.

ME TOO!

I'm on the hunt for another column. Got any extras?

Mine has the switch on the column. When I get to swapping the parts I will take lots of pictures.

I started mine today. I dint get very far though. You will need a pair of snap ring pliers. I had a few set but they have vanished from my tool box.

There was a thread on this site a long time ago where
a fella said he bought a collar from a 78 standard floor shift pickup
and it was a direct replacement and fit perfect.
I have not tried this or say it will work, I remembered the info
because i will have to do something when the time comes to do mine.
Hope someone can confirm or refute.

Would a 78 pickup have the ignition key/switch on the column?

If so, that would work on the 70 and up floor shift conversions.

Yes it would have the key on the column. There are some differences though.

70 columns are 1 year only. Key on the column, No key release lever. After 71 there may be more changes but Im not sure how many other changes there may be.
