stockinteriors carpet installation with factory AC

Has anyone had any trouble with stockinteriors carpet with mass backing and factory AC? I can't get the carpet to slide under the bottom of the AC system housing. It's great looking carpet but am I going to have to loosen the AC case somehow? Is that much of a job?

Maybe cut the mass backing back where it goes under the AC case?

Yeah at minimum I'll need to cut the jute backing to right in front of the AC. The mass backing looks like it is rolled or spread on and then becomes the consistency of tires. There just happens to be a big build-up of it right there too. I could possibly sand it off with 36 grit though. ...but ...I was counting on the pad and extra backing to cut down on road and engine noise there.
