Well deer hunting season ended like the last 3… nada. Mostly because I can’t shoot anymore apparently…
Each of the last 3 years, I’ve missed when firing at a deer. Granted, they’ve all been long range shots. Well I guess last years wasn’t a miss so much as we lost the blood trail after 2.5 miles. So not a clean hit. For someone like me, who never used to miss, I’m getting PO’d. Which is frustrating in and of itself. But when your son is with you each time, it’s not only embarrassing but degrading.
Was reading the forums about my 6.5 Grendel just penciling thru deer at 150-300 yards, with the hunting rounds I’ve been using. So maybe I haven’t missed but in the end, no blood, no trail no kill. And a wounded animal out there is worst yet.
Decided to spend 5 hours at the range . 120 rounds of 300 Win Mag will make your shoulder hurt. But got the new rifle broken in , zeroed in and ready for its debut next year.
But hanging out solo with my son, without the girls, is more than a moral victory at least. Kid is already begging me to go out west to hunt elk…
