Sugar feeds cancer

-

Dr Robert Lustig: Sugar, The Bitter Truth. 16 years ago. I don't remember if he addresses the sugar cancer relationship in this video but I think he at least tells how sugar is so addictive and used by food companies for that purpose. It is in so many processed foods.
So what are processed foods? I looked for that answer or a while before finding an explanation that made sense to me. As I remember it: The big food companies want food to have a long shelf for less waste and loss, and more profit. So how do they increase shelf life? By processing out the parts that bacteria will eat. Then what's left tastes like cardboard. How can they make it tasty again? By adding salt and sugar. But you may know your body is full of bacteria that helps you digest healthy food. But they took out the part that bacteria eats.

60 Minutes Investigates: Is Sugar Toxic?

I think sugar should be public health enemy #1.
I'm sure I have seen TedTalks videos about sugar feeding cancer cells years ago.

Pfft.. :poke: :)

Yeah... seems like most people don't want to hear it. No one in my family will. And that used to make it tough on me. I do all the grocery shopping for my wife and me, and for my 92 year old Mom who lives with us in her own area of our house. I had no trouble avoiding those items at the grocery store on my own but they both give me a list of things they want and it's not health food. My wife claims she inherited her "sweet tooth" as she calls it. And Mom wants to bake or buy cakes and pies and then offer it to us.
Since my 2 night stay in the hospital last February for Afib, I now have the perfect excuse. "I can't have that."

yah...big food producers rely on their taste testers. Sugar is increased until it is sickening at which point
they cut it back a bit and it's ready for the grocery shelves. It's addictive. If you eat a lot of it and stop it
is noticed, very uncomfortable and very very hard to get off.

I would drink 3 bottles of Dr. Pepper a day. Asked the doctor at one check-up if it was okay healthwise to do that (pre-internet days). He asked if I had problems sleeping. I said no. Then you are fine. After getting married and my wife buying how many six packs of the stuff a week, I either slowed down or tried switching to tea. 'Course the tea was bottled and sugary also. Finially started the brew your own herbal stuff. Now, I'm just as bad with that as the soda. I must have at least three dozen "flavors" to pick from. 5 or 6 packets cold brewed. Then, split it into 4 days worth. Maybe not super healthy but at least no sugar.

Cancer fighting foods only help if you eat them before hand, once you get Cancer it doesn't help. I know two people personally who had cancer and went to a cancer fighting food diet and they both still died from their cancer. Sweet tea, soda, alcohol, candy, most cereals are loaded up with sugar

Appreciate the info. So I guess I can just keep eating the junk stuff then, since eating healthy won't benefit me.

I'm not saying not to eat healthier, waiting until something happens is to late. We all have to much sugar in our diets including myself. I have to limit my sugar intake because I'm a type 2 diabetic.

I switched to sweetened coffee, then gradually removed the sugar. Still do cream though.

Here's a weird one: an 8 oz normal sugar Red Bull takes 3-4 units of insulin for me. The sugar free takes 9 units and will keep my blood sugar high for 5 hours. Tasty though lol

True, true, true! I had a good friend named Gary. We were friends since high school. When I retired from the Air Force in 1993, we re-established our friendship. Our wives got along well, so we did a lot of stuff together. Gary and I went to lunch together once a week for many years. Then he started acting weird and saying crazy stuff. He spent most of his spare time on the internet. He talked himself into believing all kinds of crazy crap; and he REALLY believed that crap. We didn't go to the moon, the American government took down the World Trade Center buildings, the world might be flat (he was researching it), and my favorite - the white contrails behind a jet high in the air was definitely mind control drugs. He also fell hook line and sinker for homeopathic medicine. All the sudden, regular doctors were garbage, and only his precious homeopathic doctors were any good. Oh, and he got hooked into a very weird religion too; and I do mean weird. It got to the point where every time we went to lunch, all he wanted to do was argue about why his weird beliefs were right, and mine were all wrong. Eventually, I had to walk away from him. He got colon cancer and refused Chemo. He tried to treat it with his homeopathic medicine. He did daily coffee enemas and ate a very strict veggy diet. The cancer got worse. Then he went to a 'special' clinic in Texas where a specialist re-aligned the magnetic field within his body. "Because your body can't heal itself if the magnetic field is misaligned." The cancer got worse. Then he went to a clinic somewhere in Canada where they did all kinds of crazy homeopathic medicine things to him including injections of mistletoe juice. The cancer got worse, and he died. I agree that there are a lot of good things about natural medicine, but not like that.

Another bit of advice from Mr. How to find the distributor clip guy.

With extra sugar...

The sugar free chemical additives are as bad or worse for your body then sugar in some cases.
Juvenile Diabetic here. I will be 73 next month. First diagnosed at ten.
Everyone's body process food differently.

Your body process different foods at different rates. Breads are a big one.
Some take hours to breakdown. Others process faster.
Being diabetic and having cancer is a double whammy.

All the foods people are talking about here are not even foods (Red Bull, Sweet Tea, Soda, garbage, garbage, garbage). Has anyone here read the ingredients in a loaf of bread from the store?? If it smells like chemicals when you open the bag, it can't be healthy... Looking at the methods of logic in this thread it appears that these are all older people talking, because they still place trust in foods that were healthy in the past... Well, they're not now, due to new chemicals and ultra processing. With the never-ending technology put into foods, you would think that humans now would be healthier and more powerful than ever! But no, it's just the opposite, 90% of people are overweight, alot are morbidly obese. And I'll bet that anyone reading this thread knows a person or people with cancer.... What gives???? Doesn't anyone see the correlation between ultra processed food and the downward spiral of the health of Americans??
i just saw a commercial on TV last night pushing prescription weight loss medicine for people too lazy to actually want to lose weight and exercise to lose it... It's very scary what is being pushed into the faces of Americans as being good for you. But what's even more scary is the people that are believing their doctors, food ads, and pharmacutical companies to think this is all normal...

Looks like diet pepsi....

Probably worse for you than the leaded stuff. :)

I need to stop drinking it and get off the sugar sauce.
I’m proud to say I’ve gone 8 months now without a single soda pop of any kind. I really watch my sugar intake. I’m down 70 pounds too in that time.

There’s a balance. Proper nutrition and proper medicines if truly needed work hand in hand.

My wife works for a doctors office, they get free lunches, millions in free drug samples and gift cards from pharmaceutical company drug reps. Some of these lunches are catered with steak entrees from various restaurants.

I’ve struggled with Migraines and vertigo after suffering a TBI while attempting a high angle rope rescue in 2024. The neurologist they sent me too… his exact words when I asked what could be causing them were “we don’t care about the cause, we just want to treat”. Then he put me on like 5 different meds.

I seldom drink soda …other than Barley Pop which probably has plenty of sugar. But if we are going to legislate it out of our diet shouldn’t we get rid of cigarettes and alcohol as well ?
Funny how people that hated the “nanny state” all of a sudden want to outlaw stuff .
I do agree that many additives to food today are sketchy at best but sugar may be the least of our worries.

So that example alone should tell John Q. Public that something is not right... But the typical person makes no connection and just goes along in life, getting imbibed with med after med because the doctor told them to, and then asking themselves why they're so sick...

I can't remember my Dad having medicine, maybe an aspirn once in awhile. Mom had allergies and other things. She had so many meds we teased her that she rattles when she walks. Both succumbed to the effects of cancer.

My parents ate healthy their whole lives. We had a garden in the yard where my dad would pick vegetables after work for dinner. My parents were never on medications and my father lived to 96 and died of natural causes. My mother is now 91 and is totally coherent, not on medications, and is very healthy....

My sister is a pharmacist who goes to pharmaceutical conventions and brings home bags of new medications to try. She's been imbibing her kids with so many medications that they're the sickliest kids I've ever saw. One of them missed half the school year in high school.

Sorry to read that. You would think that with the parent's example, she would keep them off medications. Funny how you can grow up in the same family and turn out so different.
Dad had a garden also but I think the three packs of cigarettes a day took it's toll. The weren't all smoked, just lit up, the phone would ring. Put it in the ash tray and when done with the call it was done. Light and repeat. Not sure, maybe that was just as bad as second hand smoke.
