Headlight wiring help .

-
Short is in the forward lighting harness somewhere . I will start disconnecting wires one at a time and checking each one .

I was gonna say the HL switch was grounded thru the inst bezel I thought? Could be wrong...
Later switches had the ground tang as RRR stated.
GO JAYS!

At some point the headlight switches were mounted in plastic (truck?, M-body?, I forget). That's when the switch got a ground terminal and why all aftermarket replacements have that terminal whether required or not. Either way it is not relative to headlight function.
For a lot of years the headlights ground path was from radiator support to firewall jumper to across engine block to battery neg' terminal. Pizz poor in anyone's book.
It was 1970 or later before they finally added a jumper from radiator support straight to battery neg'. Carry on.

Yeah , it was a rhetorical question I guess . I should have asked “will it help?” . Since I haven’t had an issue for 15 years I knew better .

Got it figured out . I knew it would be something simple and stupid. The grounds I was checking were not the headlight grounds . The headlight ground was 2 wires joined at a common eyelet that was snaked through a hole in the radiator support and tucked behind the horns . It looked like the horn wiring .
Duh ! I knew it would be some simple brainfart !
Thanks guys !

Assembly drawing shows the same as the photo in post 10

Lol.. I missed that post . I could have popped the hood on my 69 Swinger but my brain locked in on those 2 grounds which seemed to be in similar position as the wiring diagram.
I looked over the harness multiple times to see if I missed the actual headlight grounds and even traced it back to behind the horns but it looked like it was plugged into the lower horn . My brain became convinced that it was the horn wiring diagram.

Had 2 sets of 7” LED headlights on the shelf so now I can see at night. I am building the Barracuda to be a traveling car ( mild stroker and 46rh ) so it will see some high speed night drives . Hopefully I will have everything sorted out by spring . My plan is to do a trip out to Illinois and Minnesota to visit my brothers.

About those aftermarket 7 inch round lights,,, I suppose they aren't all the same but mine created a secondary issue. Left side failed couple months after install. The factory connector had crushed against back of the bulb house. I had to buy 90 degree offset connectors to cure it.
Cosmeticly, they made my 67 park lamp fixtures look pitiful. I bought a second pair of the same aftermarket things and whittled them down to 2 small pieces of that same reflector to fit inside each of the OEM fixtures and used those bottle cap like center blinds too. Amber stained 1157 bulbs added and she's got pretty and youthful looking fish eyes. Yeah I added a front tag lamp too.

Just south of me. I'm north just west of Rock Island. If you make the trip we could meet for for few minutes. It's 50 miles or so, wouldn't mind the drive.

Sounds good . Just in the planning stages so far but that would be great.
