summit brand electronic ign kit

-
chrome is the best hotter spark, longer duration, good to 8,000 rpm. orange 6K, weaker spark, quality issues. the summit dist does not have an adjustable weight slot to tailor your total (mech) advance. the MP dist is made by Mallory and has adjustable slots. IMHO go with the mopar with a chrome box.

Good information I did not know.... I will order the MP kit with chrome box! Thanks

Its a good bit cheaper than the MP kit, but looks to have the same components

The Chinese specialise in "a good bit cheaper but looks the same". Unless all you care about is what the parts look like (not how well they work or how reliable they are), it's false economy to mess with low-quality whitebox crapola.

Also remember the MP electronic distributor comes with a mechanical advance "curve" (actually a straight line...all advance dumped in just off idle) unsuitable for use on the street.

You may want to read about theHEI upgrade.

The MP distrib. should not have a mech. advance that aggresive, the race unit, YES!
The Chrome box is very very good. A simple plug and play item, use with proper ballast resister.

You are right my friend on the chinese part but I totally disagree on the ignition.
The Mopar Ignition works extremely well if not better than that hei crap and doesn't require you to have to listen to your gm buddies gloat about the gm parts makin that mopar run.(Literally) JMHO

Incorrect. HEI is a better ignition system. Go read the link, which contains a clear and accurate real-world demonstration of the longer duration and higher power of the spark with HEI (same distributor, same engine, same spark plugs at same gap...direct back-to-back comparison of Mopar box vs. HEI module).

As for Chevy owners gloating...c'mon, be serious. Who cares what they think? I build my cars to suit myself, not so some idiot I don't even know will like them. My goal is to make my car run as well as possible, as cost-effectively as possible. HEI is the best ignition fit within that goal.

Dan which Mopar module was used in that test? If it was a stock or orange module it could have been improved on a lot by just switching to the chrome module. HEI modules might very well have good spark duration and power down low in the rpm range but stock ones are totally worthless for a high compression engine that spins over 5000 rpm. I had a bunch of Chevy's when I was young and know that by experience. You always had to upgrade their ignition to get them to RPM decent.

I recently switched my 69 Cuda from points to electric distributor, Here is my problem when head lights are on engine wants to die. I had electronic distributor already I brought stock elctric ignition box and four post ballast resistor for 74 Cuda, this is how I wired it brown and white wire to distributor gray wire to distributor red to bottom right ballast black and yellow to negitive coil two black wires from harness top right of ballast one small black wire from harness to top left of ballast one wire going from left top of ballast to left bottom ballast
