I have a fairly new summit racing camshaft and lifters, I hate to see it go to waste. Was running it in a 318 with fourspeed and 3:91 rear. Seemed ok
for a 318 chirped 2nd and 3rd gear. Looking for opinions on wether I shoud run it in my 340. Specs are : duration @ .050 218/228 degrees (int/exh)
and lift is .441/.441 (int/exh) rpm range 200-4500. My concern is the rpm range as legend says a 340 wil rev 6000 all day long. I am running the high compression 340 with 2.02 j heads and want to run a 750 carb. Anybody's 2 cents worth on this is appreciated.

A fellow A body racer here, Milelbeck has run that @ .050 spec cam to the tune of mid to low 12's in his 360 Duster.
I think it was the Crane version. It has a tad more lift than the Summit version, which is ground by Crane..

I know you'll not be makeing power that high, 6,000 rpm's, with that cam. The 340 may be able to rev that high and better, but the cam is rated in a certain RPM range and the springs that control the valves should match the cam. You should have max power by 5500 and that's it. Reving past that is possoble, but power drops off after that and becomes pointless to continue on unless crossing the finish line.
