With sun gear would be a better for street/strip??

I have a 74 904 with a sun gear that measures 1.080 and a 83 904 with a sun gear that measures 2.040. I don't know the gear ratio's.

Thanks
Jeremy

Ohhh, automatic tranny stuff. I'm whatchin this thread.

Later model unit is stronger, but I think you may need to also change the front pump support and a few other parts to match the larger sun gear on the sun shell. And the planetaries I think you will also need late model too? Then you need to make sure you have the proper clearances for end play when finished.

As long as all parts are matched you should stay with the standard 904 ratios in each gear.

There are also some custom trick aftermarket stuff too, big $$$s. I run a 2.72 low in my 727 and a 3.91 screw, so it is like running about 4.30s or so out of the hole. Good for heavy cars, or in my case I like the faster 60' times and able to still cruise somewhat better on the street.

9.57 turns of the engine per loop stock low
10.63 turns of the engine per loop modified

Stock ratios:
2.45 low 1.45 2nd 1.00 3rd

i'll be some were between 400 - 450 hp on street tires.
