I have a 1972 dart with the big block treatment and a 5 speed Tremec. I put an 8 3/4 a body rear end in it with suregrip. I also had it rebuilt.

It's very fun, but I think it's not working right or maybe it is and I dont understand how it should work.

I can't do donuts. My Mustang and Chevelle will kick the rearend out and slide around in circles until I get dizzy, but not the Dart. It tries to kick out a little (maybe six inches sideways) and then suddenly stops. At that point it still spins the tires, but only in a straight line.

Is my Suregrip broken or is that how they work?

What type of suregrip? Some styles are a little weaker & don't grip as well over time.

The power loc only locks under heavy torque or load, so if your not into the throttle hard it wont lock.

They are supposed to let one tire give when cornering, but how much is determined by the condition of the grip unit, the lube used and what type of unit.
Any of them should spin both tires in a donut.

The Mopar rear suspension is better than the other examples you gave. That's pretty much the long and short of it.

power brake it first. get the tires spinning then do doughnuts.
horrible video

So you like wearing out tires, in circles "many times" burning rubber for what?

Jeesh. I almost didn't ask, because I knew some kill joy would pipe his two cents in. Thanks for the lecture Gramps. Yes, I like wearing out tires in circles. For what? That's like asking why water is wet. Some things just are. I like it 'cause I like it. 'Cause it's fun. 'Cause I can afford all the tires I could ever wish to destroy. My drift car can go through several sets of tires in a single day.

Lots of people have their fun doing lots of stupid things - why should you care how I have mine? I road course, drift, gokart, jet ski, skydive, atv, and many other "stupid things" and drifting is less stupid and dangerous than any of them.

Just like you see in post 13.

Ahh, the video didn't show up before. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Mine won't do that. I guess the suregrip is broken. I have many other cars that do so it's not lack of skill. It's a manual so it's a pain to power brake. The pedals aren't lined up very well to heel-toe it. I rev it and dump the clutch, but can't swing it around.

he likes to get dizzy. ha ha sounds to me as he's dizzy enough. Tommy, unless you want to ware out your welcome, watch who you disrespect and call names.
