I have an old 8.75" Suregrip dated 1/15/63 in a 742 case. I was told by someone that these old clutch type suregrips had a 2 piece spider gear or split side gear design that was weak. When I look in at the splines I can see a circumferential line in the middle of the splined section. I have found a repair kit ($189) that is supposed to replace the 2 peice design with 1 piece. My local differential guy said he was only familiar with the 2 piece design. He knows his stuff about diff's, but he's not necessarily a Mopar expert. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've sold and built thirds with both types of side gears, though the one piece may be stronger, theres not a thing wrong with using the two piece type. Take it apart and inspect the clutches, if they are bad replace them and use it!

I am looking to make around 600 rwhp. I just want to make sure the 2-piece design will hold up to this.
