46RE, just rebuilt with a new (reman) torque converter. It has a rotating noise that I would describe as halfway between a tick and a light knock. With the truck running, I was underneath trying to locate the origin and I noticed some fore and aft movement of the ring gear (dust cover is off, obviously). I set my dial indicator up to the ring gear, rotated the motor by hand, and found almost .030" runout. Afraid I had a bent flexplate, I checked that also (as well as I could), but the bolt areas are pretty good, probably within .002 or .003 of each other. With it being a magnum flexplate, I can't easily get in to measure the body of the T/C. Would this be a tolerable amount of runout on the ring gear? I suppose the bolt pads could be off a bit... It's not hitting/rubbing against anything, not too close to the starter nose gear, etc. I'd like it to be the cause of the noise, but at this point, unless maybe something's out of whack with the hub, I'm thinking not. Thanks, Karlin.
