Talk About Your 1969 Dart 'Swinger 340'

I think you are seeing shading/shadows from body lines rather than stripes.

I agree that might be the case. Zooming in on the image does show rather distinct black stripes.

Also, bear in mind that all of those brochure shots are hand drawn/painted. They are not photographs. Hence, they might not be accurate images.

I think that's the answer - artistic license/shading. I might try it out on a 69 Dart model I purchased for that purpose. I like things that are a bit unusual.

Bought mine in 1981 for $850.00 and still have it. Was originally Bronze with a white top, white bumblebee stripe and a white bench seat interior. I couldn't stand the bronze (like it now though) so in 1985 I stripped it to bare metal (no rust) and had it painted FY1 Top Banana. At this time I added headers, a Crane Econo-Power cam with Rhodes variable duration lifters, Chrysler electronic ignition, Torker 340 manifold and 3.91 gears. I also omitted a few things because they didn't pertain to going fast, things like insulation and power steering (I want it back now) With this combo I ran 13.50.

In 1988 I rebuilt the engine with 8.5:1 pistons, replaced the Chrysler ignition with a MSD and added the B&M forced induction. I changed the gear ratio to 4.30 which netted me 12.50 quarter mile times.

The second time around in 2000 I had it repainted again (thought about black but fell victim to the FY1 curse).

2010 added the Comp roller cam and lifters and had the X heads redone with hardened seats (already had stainless valves I also had a multi-angle valve job and port work done. I was able to run 11:50 with this setup. These cars are ever evolving and are never truely done.

I had several 69's. This one a 340 4spd. I owned this car in the early 80's as the pic shows . This car always comes up in conversation because of a story attached with an 80's Corvette . It was my transportation for work when I painted at Mack trucks. There is a story with this car I think you would all find amuzing. If some one reminds me when I have time I will share it. I also have pics of my other Swinger's I don't have loaded that I will post.

No time like the present. I can't wait!

Bought my first one in March 1969, brand new right off the showrrom floor at National Motors here in Victoria BC Canada. Paid $3495 for it. It was blue with blue int and white stripe, 340 / 4 speed. Had it for a couple of years and traded it for a 69 Z-28! Over the years I always kind of wanted another one, and just found the right one about a month ago and bought it this past weekend. This one is sunburst yellow with black stripe, black vinyl top, black interior, and 340 / 4 speed. Pretty nice restoration overall. Paid a lot more than $3495 for it though!:)
