ok noobie question hear..how can i tell apart a 318 from a 360. reason is i have a 74 roadrunner that supposed to have a 360, its pretty tight so cant get numbers from behind the block? any sugesstion guys?

Displacement is stamped into the flat machined area on the left front of the block, directly below the deck. ANY factory service manual will show this.

That spot cheif is talking about can be hard to read sometimes. It is just below the drivers cylinder head.

Other numbers are not behind the block, but on the drivers side of the block. The displacement is embosed there someplace. You should be able to see it easy.

get a mirror and just use that since it's a tight space ;-)

A quick way to tell is to look at the harmonic balancer. If it is counterweighted then it is a 360, if it completely symetrical then it is a 318.
