If you watch the video that is associated with that pic, it'll present "real life" situations that Tesla's camera based system can not handle. The whole Coyote based analysis is just the icing on the cake.

This has happened before. Someone painted a road mural on the side of a building. I think it was in Florida. People thought it was a road and drove into the side of the building.

Currently, two ways you get "self driving", cameras or LIDAR. Chances are, the real answer at this point in time is a combination of those technologies.
