Ya know I don't keep track of a lot of newer stuff. I don't have the money, and often I just disconnect. These things bang on the $100K door. Built by an outfit called "Seven Marine" they were acquired by Penta-Volvo, and recently went out of business, allegedly because of "green pressure."

What is INTERESTING is this:

They are a GM aluminum, supercharged, 5.x--6.2 LSA GM/Chev/ Cadillac HORIZONTALLY mounted V8 627hp

Supercharged, intercooled, and have fresh water heat exchanger for the engine cooling

5x 627's. At what point does multi outboards constitute a "ship?"

Over THREE THOUSAND hp

I guess you won’t be testing one of those by hanging in your 55 gallon barrel of water.
That thing is a BEAST!!

You don't remember my "real" test tank? I STILL don't have it done, although, useable. This all happened about the time of the latest broken ribs escapade

Del buys a test tank....a REAL test tank...a STAINLESS...a HUGE

Mercury just put out a v12 version

Mercury Is Building a 600-Horsepower V-12 Outboard Motor
"While a 600-horse V-12 sounds like the epitome of hey-look-at-me outrageousness and ostentation, Mercury makes the case that these beasts actually represent pragmatic boating. One benefit: fuel economy. How is a 7.6-liter V-12 good for fuel economy? Because to get 1200 horsepower, you'd use either two of these or, say, three 425-hp V-8s. In which case, you still have 24 cylinders, but the added drag of another drive in the water. Mercury says dual V-12s deliver 20 percent better fuel economy than triple (Yamaha) V-8s."

^^Yeh^^ I "heard" about them while I was searching more info about the first ones

Funny, but 40 years ago I helped a friend at the Jersey shore hook up a 2 speed power glide trans to the 250 cid Chevy straight six in his homemade wooden Garvey boat. It would dig out of the hole quickly and easily and drive smooth once in second gear.

Interesting how it took 4 decades for Mercury Marine to figure out what we knew then...

“Verado compounds its power advantage by incorporating a two-speed automatic transmission in the lower unit. First gear is 20 percent lower than second gear, to help the boat get up on plane quickly digging out of the hole efficiently before switching to direct drive for power and speed.”

The two speed Power-glide was essentially the same thing.

The power glide would also be cheaper than the $70k mercury is asking for those outboards

Although 70k sounds like a ton of money for that motor think about this .
I am getting quotes of 26k+ for cabinets in my kitchen !
Now imagine making cabinets or that outboard . How in the hell can wooden cabinets cost as much as a Honda Accord to produce !!!! ?

Ever try making cabinets? That's why they cost so much ;) LOL. Lotsa labor, and labor ain't getting cheaper. I know what you mean though!

Ever see a cnc cabinet shop? I toured one a few years ago and they can pump out cabinets like crazy . I knew the previous owner and he said the machines were expensive but paid for themselves in a short time.

Lots of cnc metal fab, but not for cabinets. I bet it cuts a ton of work, still takes lots of assembly though. I know this past year that lumber has nearly doubled in many places too - and with all the California refugees in Boise I bet demand is super high too.

I know right now in our neck of the woods that contractors are booked out nearly 3 years on average! I have a deck to redo and several projects I'm now putting off because of all that. What should be $30k right now will cost me $75k+, ugh.
