Thermostat or no thermostat?

Oh, I change the oil every 3--4 months, that is a biggie. doesn't matter if you got only 700 miles on it, if its 3--4 months old, change it and use the best dino oil you can get for it..I use 20w-50 also..might just use straight 30 weight but like its not made anymore
 
I run a 195 F thermostat in my three 60's cars. If you use lower, don't fuss about bad gas mileage. Removing the thermostat will not make it run hotter, but it may run too cool. If you don't care about temperature control, might as well get an air-cooled engine, but VW's needed rebuilding every 80K miles.
