Timing Chain Set

Update on the timing chain issue. I purchased a set thru Hughes from Pro Gear. Installed as it should and didnt require a tensioner. Rusty Rat Rod was right, pay a little more to get quality parts. Still a shame how bad old companies parts have become.

I have a Cloyes true roller in my 340 right now that has about 25 hours and it’s been running like crap for about 10 hours. With the cost of the Cloyes vs. the Hughes, ya should just send that Cloyes junk back and get the Hughes if you’ve not run/ dropped it yet...

New video from David Vizard on youtube. He says tight timing chain COSTS you ten HP. Dyno proven.

Well depends on how tight, of course. You don't want it loose enough to get more than a degree or 2 at most of timing variation.

Changed the timing chain out today. Had almost a half inch of deflection on the slack side and about 3/8 inch on the drive side.

The Pro Gear I put in has about 1/8 to 3/16 play in it.

Yep, that’s where the one I installed is. I put a tensioner on also. Going to be making some noise here in a little while... check the timing once warmed up, Cruze through town, then a 4K clutch drop or 2 and then check the timing again...
