could someone tell me about what to set timing on 73 duster with 360, it has pertronix ignitor 2 and flame thrower coil, mild cam and headers?

About 17 degrees initial and total of 34 should get you close, you can fine tune from there to meet your particular engine needs

could you tell me what 17 initial timing means and what 34 total means? thanks

Pull the vacuum advance hose off the distribtor and plug it so it doesn't leak.

Get timing light set up on #1 spark plug wire and aim at damper on running car.

Loosen distrib and twist it until the mark hits the 17 degree mark or use a dial back light and dail it back to 17* and aim light on damper mark until the mark hits zero when you twist the distrib.

Rev engine with hose still off and plug to 3000 rpm (This varies with engine build) and note total advance with dial back timing light set to 34*. The timing mark should come to the zero mark. Somewhere around 34* is what your looking for.

Re-attach the vacuum hose to distrib and rev engine up to approx 3000 RPM (This varies with engine builds) and note the total. It should be no more than 52*

Set carb idle, lock down distrib, road test, enjoy.

On a pretty much stock engine 17 initial is likely going to be too much. 12-15 is likely going to be the range the engine will perform best.
