timing problem

-
Three things to check.
1. Older harmonic balancers tend to slip, make sure the timing mark is on TDC
2. Does the new ignition require a ballast resistor or not?
3. Some of the timing lights have adjustable advance, not sure why, if so adjust to zero.

Good points. I wont use a adjustable light at all, thy are usually off if it is non digital.

So you can check advance and still see tdc mark. If your total is at 34°, set your timing light advance to 34° and read the timing on the balancer at zero. You can always see 0°. You can rarely see 34° on the balancer.

His is "searching" Definitely a ignition issue unless your turning the dial on the light when using it.

Hi Ozz. I am about an hour south of you. If you want an extra set of eyeballs and another timing light in your garage send me a pm with your contact info and I will plan a road trip. I need to visit Heritage for a couple jugs of vino pretty soon anyway and you would be on my way there.
