Tired of my fuel system, dump the holley go to Carters AVS help.

This particular Carb was only on the lower HP 440s in 71.
It flows around 625/630 CFM as delivered. It has the smaller 7/16
primaries like the 68 to 70 340 AVS carb unlike most other 440 AVS carbs
with 11/16 primaries.

With some booster changes and other sneaky machine work to carb Gurus can get them
to 710 to 720 CFM.

Thank you. I guess I’ll have to sell or trade this one out. I bought it to make it into a 4967 but I sold the car anyways.

The Holley is not taller than a Carter/Edel AVS. At the air cleaner neck, they are all 5" diam & 3 1/8" tall.
Just had to get back and let you know I did indeed check, and yes sir, you are right, same height. Thank you.

Wow, some good size numbers, thank you.

Going to add a return line and a jeep style vapor return filter , think I will put a bung in my new sending unit, and let the return line be the old fuel line, adding a 3/8th inch heavy wall aluminum supply line, new tank and sending unit is on my pool table now, got to go to my tractor supply and pick up a dozen 38th rubber sleeved line straps and 6 rupper sleeves for 1/2 inch holes I will be drilling.. covering any and all bases.

I did rebuild the carb (AVS Carter) and very happy with it, and have a half inch black insulated for below the carburetor as advised in this thread, thank you all again for the good advice and knowledge shared here.

Mike, I’ve used that 4966 avs and it is a really good carb, but don’t let fuel supply issues sour you on your Holley. I’ve used Holleys a lot with really good luck once properly tuned. The only problem with them is they’re a bit touchier than Carters on fuel pressure and contaminants. It sounds like your main problem was probably dirty fuel (and possibly even fuel pressure). Good luck my friend. Sounds like you’re on the right track with changing out the fuel tank and where you hook up the lines use fuel injection approved hose as it’ll stand up to the ethanol in today’s fuel. It’s more expensive but will last way longer. Regular old fuel line hose generally doesn’t last more than a year or two before it’s as hard as a rock because of ethanol

2 1/2 turns on the air door. 1 3/4 would be a stock setting, mine always bogged with the stock setting.

Happy that my two kits I ordered off Ebay for a AVS was Standard kit 446B and AFB Standard kit 224d were both USA made.....
