Just installed this 100 amp square back alternator got off a cop car in a boneyard, had it rebuilt

Waiting on a fan to attach to the thermostatic clutch

A few hrs of small stuff

Fill the float bowls thru the vents, and tons of advance timing to start.
If the starter balks, it's a tad too much .
 
Now, I could be wrong about this, but I THOUGHT I remembered those coils are supposed to be mounted vertical.

I thought that too but I don't see it in the instruction sheet. I probably made that assumption since every drawing in the instruction sheet shows it in a vertical orientation. I ran one for years on the street but it was vertical. I guess we will find out.

Ford used those Coils right from the factory on some of their Cleveland powered Mustangs in the early 70s and they were mounted right up front, vertically. They even carried a Ford part number. It just seems like I've seen it somewhere in print. But honestly, I could be imagining it.
 
Did you upgrade your wiring for the 100 amps?
Yes fill the bowls through the vents. Don't be like the yahoos on tv that either use starting fluid or dump a pint of fuel down the carb. :rolleyes:
My 5.9 is just sitting waiting for me to put it back together and back into the Dart. Hope to get some time soon.
 
Make sure you have a water hose and or fire extinguisher on the scene.

Yes complete custom wiring with
Much larger gauge wire , an appropriate fusible link near the alternator, and every electrical item will have its own fuse.
The bundled wires are spares

The ground strap goes to the inner fender and one goes to to the engine
Unscrew and remove the green knob on negative terminal, kills power

The plan is to cover all underhood wires with the stainless steel hose wire cover

No cheesy plastic bulkhead connector for me

I've always mixed marvel mystery oil with the gas to pour into the vent tubes, plus some in the gas tank

I think a couple years back there was a whole thread dedicated to that very topic. Both sides were passionate and the thread was long. But I think in the end the vertical thing was decided it was urban myth? Like Rusty I was thinking they had to be vertical? Something about heat/wear and sealing internal?

Have a temporary spacer on clutch fan, studs were too long had to add the unly spacer I had. This is just to get it on the road, fix later

Very little room between clutch and radiator now, fix later

I'm raising the radiator to create airflow under the trans cooler and the radiator, the trans cooler is 2 inches up above the rad opening
And the rad will be raised also it's shown all the way down and the trans cooler is shown up

It will be a beast I sold a bunch of parts recently to pay for getting this on the Rd

In fact, I'm meeting a member halfway, in Dothan, Alabama Sunday to sell him 2 A833 OD tranny's , shifter, rods

Next project 400 stroked bored to a 512 tork monster withe the dual Torqstorm Supercharger set up that fits under the hood
Will support 850 hp

Orange wire to alternator

Green yellow voltage regulator

3/8 stainless , overflow drain from overflow tank

s you can see stainless mesh will reduce back down haven't finished yet

This looks better than the Holley that was on there

Thermoquad 6455, 1974 , 360 HP, passenger car

This carb is the same setup as other early 70's HD Truck carburetors that only has a nipple for I believe the the charcoal canister. Not near the emissions passages built into later carburetors. And has 3 vent tubes instead of one or two. And

So, being off a 360 HP pass car application, I'm thinking it's off a E58

The new problem is that with the square bore to TQ pattern adapter, plus the nitrous plate, I'm not so sure that even a drop base air cleaner will provide enuff hood clearance . Plus I'm concerned that additional height with the spacers is
going to change the flow characteristics of the intake.
I've seen gains with spacers and losses too.
Guess I'll just have to try it

I think I'd remove that fan spacer. .....and put a grommet on them wires comin through the firewall already! I don't wanna see your junk burn down.

Yeah quick mock up, studs are too long without the spacer, will cut them down and reinstall them
I'm looking at the Offenhauser or OTB polished aluminum hood scoop

Thank you for the Alternator bracket pictures, I still need to mount mine on my 360 , good luck on taking time to mount your Starter switch plate, hopefully I get some time today on my little ride. Yours is going to be fun, fast and winning machine :thumbsup:

I have to admit the brackets were cobbled together. A small block set of brackets, persuaded and bent, an 1 inch longer main bolt ,
Some "spacers"
It took half a day to get it setup
I was unable to find a bracket kit to convert from round to squareback alt
It came off an E58 Cop car engine, the brackets were missing
