Need a little help on tire size for the 64 dart.I have 14x4.5 front steelies & 14x5.5 rear.I would like a little more rubber on the road so Im thinking 205/70/14 front and 225/70/14 rear. The rears will be aprox 1'' taller than the front.I think they are 26.4'' tall. What do you guys think of these sizes.Do you see any problems ? I tried searching and did not see much on 64 darts.
Thanks Mark

I went with 235/60r14 and just hope they fit.

There a 26 inch tire. The size will look good in there.

i would like to know how far in the air he will have to lift at bumper to get those 60s in i have 225/70-14 and had to put sizzer jack btween pinion snubberand (reinforced)body in order to get tires thru fenderwell/frame space id LOVE to have 60s just fr more rubber(read tire fryer) car will have "modified"318-833 4spd and 355s SS springs Addco swaybar and adjustable snubber but im pretty sure im GONNA have "off the line"traction probs any advice greatly welcomed oh yeah car is a 65DartGT

May want to check the early A-body threads to see if this has been addressed for the '65.

When I've stuffed a bit wheel/tire combo into a wheel well with a small opening, I've always had to lift from the frame to change a tire.

True story. Lived in Washington DC at time & parked a couple of blocks behind the Capitol. As I came back towards the car I noticed it was sitting at an odd angle. I yelled at the two kids I saw trying to steal my tires. They scattered like grapeshot leaving their tools behind. Their problem: Using a scissor jack at the axle. They could not get the wheel through the opening in the fender. I re-installed the wheel and let the car down. Since I didn't see anyone I could give the tools to, I chunked the (nice) scissor jack and a four-bar lug wrench into the trunk and drove off.

Look at your proposal as having a built in anti-theft device.

I'm not sure how much difference there is in wheel well opening between a 65 Cuda and a 65 Dart, but I run a 265 on my Cuda in the stock wheel well. I do have to jack it up on the frame to get the tire in but she fits with no rubbing. I do have my springs moved in, but It only bought me 3/4". Dam I would think a 225 would slide in easily.

Update: 235/60/14 tires fit like a glove in the rear.Rims are custom ordered 14x7 sbp steelies with 4'' backspacing.factory rearend 7 1/4 ? Front 205/70/14 on 14x5.5 steelies are very close to the front of the wheel well opening but have not rubbed. This is on a 64 dart gt conv with factory worn out suspension.
