Alright, I am not sure if this is in the correct area or not, so if the moderators see fit please move it to the correct area.

I am finishing up re-building my 440, I am going to go over the transmission and start to put it in the car. Obviously I have a lot of things to get set-up before i can start it for the first time. One of which is the fuel system. I have had the car for about 3 years, I bought it with a bad motor so It hasn't ran in several years. I know there is fuel in the tank, and I know that it isn't any good. I don't trust the tank either, more than likely full of crap, water, and holes.

I am planning on pulling the tank soon, to check it all out. It is a '74 Duster, it is all original... just needs love, My question is what fuel system (fuel pump back) would you (or what do you guys) run? I am thinking about swapping the fuel lines for stainless from Inline tube (got all my brake lines from them - Quality parts). I was looking in to their fuel tanks too but, I figure I will look around and see what is out there.

Any comments, hints, tips, suggestions from others that have been here and done this?

I would use a good Holley mechanical fuel pump new 3/8" lines and a new 3/8" sending unit. I bought my tank and sender from Mancini Racing.

A lot of this depends on how far your project is going to go. Do you forsee EVER going to a fuel cell? If even maybe, now's the time to do it. If not, as a minimum, get a 3/8" sender (I've even seen 1/2" out there). If you can stand the noise, get a Holley blue pump, a decent inline filter, and a coil of 3/8" aluminum fuel line. A mechanical fuel pump will work for a cruiser, but they still have the occasional problem with vapor lock. There are quieter elec pumps out there but they cost more. As long as you don't add a lot of spray, this will suffice until the car gets into the 10's.

Dont really ever plan on going to a fuel cell. I may take the car down the track once or twice but for the most part its going to be a street car. I do have a Carter Mech Fuel pump already bolted up.

Incase anyone is interested, here are some pics of the motor and car...

Thanks for all the info and help!

I think the upgrade to 3/8 lines for the 440 are good suggestions. That's what I've got - well, it's all still sitting in a box. I got mine from Finelines, and the tank from Year One (discounted). Besides being more difficult to work with, personally, I think SS is overkill and would rather put the extra $ into other things.

From the pics it looks like you've got a good start to a great project!
